The Other Foundation is an LGBTI community foundation that advances and protects the equality, freedom, and social and economic inclusion of homosexual and bisexual women and men, and transgender and intersex people in 13 southern African countries – recognizing the particular dynamics of race, poverty and inequality, sex, gender identity and expression, national origin, heritage, and politics in our region. It does this by working as a fundraiser, a grantmaker, and a movement builder.
The Foundation is looking for a diverse selection of talented, self-motivated, experienced, highly skilled and well-networked southern African people with a can-do attitude, a strong commitment to social and economic justice, a commitment to excellence, strong attention to detail, a highly developed ability to write, a matured work ethic, the ability to work as part of a team, highly developed project management skills, and a proven track record of transparency and accountability to appoint to the following positions:
Monitoring, Evaluation, & Reporting Officer: Working with the programmes and operations teams and their respective executive officers, the successful candidate will take responsibility to lead and execute the conceptualization, development, and implementation of the Foundation’s monitoring, evaluation, and related reporting activities in compliance with the Foundation’s various commitments and obligations to multiple stakeholders. The successful candidate will preferably have a proven track record of delivering of high quality programme impact evaluations that are useful, by working with external consultants.
Business & Media Officer: Working with the executive officer for programmes and the programmes and grants administration teams, the successful candidate will be responsible for the development, planning, execution, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting of the Foundation’s research, convening, and grant making activities that relate to mass media voice and visibility of LGBTI people and the economic empowerment of LGBTI people, including through engagement with small and big businesses.
Research Officer: Working with the executive officer for programmes, the programmes and grants administration teams, and external research consultants, the successful candidate will be responsible for the development, planning, execution, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting of the Foundation’s research and related activities across all the Foundation’s programme areas. The successful candidate will preferably have a proven track record of delivering high quality research products that are useful for public advocacy purposes, by managing external research consultants.
Grantmaking Administrator: Working with the executive officer for programmes and the programmes and financial management teams, the successful candidate will be responsible for the development, planning, execution, and reporting of all the Foundation’s grant making administration in compliance with the Foundation’s policies and procedures. The successful candidate will preferably have strong proficiency in using the DevMan or similar grants administration system.
Senior Finance Officer: Working with the finance manager and head of operations, the successful candidate will develop and manage budgets, support the review of procurements, manage cash flow, assess grantee financial reports, facilitate payments (including grant payments), maintain financial accounts, and generate financial reports in accordance with the Foundation’s policies and procedures and in strict compliance with the Foundation’s commitments and obligations. The successful candidate will also facilitate financial, performance, and compliance audits as required from time to time, particularly in relation to public funds received by the Foundation from government donors.

All posts are based at the Foundation’s office in Johannesburg. All posts require a minimum of 5 years of prior experience in a related field of work and a relevant qualification. All appointments will be made on a fixed-term contract basis. The ability to communicate in English is a requirement. The ability to communicate in French and/or Portuguese as well, will give candidates an advantage.
