The Other Foundation has partnered with the City Press newspaper on a project called Freedom for All. Pairing an emerging journalist with a more experienced one, features themed on faith, tradition, family, gender and safety of homosexual men and women, and transgender and intersex people in southern Africa will be profiled every six weeks.
Approached by Facebook in 2017 to work together to improve the online safety of LGBTI people, we co-convened a gathering of leading LGBTI activist groups at Facebook’s Africa regional office in Johannesburg. It was a rare opportunity for representatives of many LGBTI groups to directly engage Facebook about issues affecting sexual minorities in Africa.
Mail & Guardian
The Mail & Guardian newspaper has announced a partnership with the Other Foundation, for a journalistic fellowship focusing on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) issues across the region. From April 2016, the fellowship has placed a mid-level journalist in the newsroom, for consistent coverage of diverse topics and voices that reflect the realities of LGBTI people’s lives in southern Africa.
